My answers to the questions above

Tell me something about this world that you admire.

People – not all people, there’s some right idiots about actually there are more appropriate and stronger words to use but I’ll keep it clean.

However, I’m lucky enough to have some absolute diamonds in my life and have worked with some inspiring people who every day go out of their way to make the world a bit better.

Every time I’ve worked on a horrific story, where you do question what is wrong with people, I always find there’s people wanting help. The good outnumber the bad, it’s easy to forget and lose sight of that sometimes.

What is your favourite form of creativity?

Okay, this is harder to answer than you might think. Obviously, I love writing and some days, yes it absolutely is my favourite from of creativity, however as a radio journalist, I can’t completely discount audio.

I love the freedom I have with writing this blog, having a random idea for post and splurging it onto a page, I never plot out paragraphs I just start typing away with no idea where it’s going or how it’s going to turn out.

I work with words every day, something I think I’m very lucky to be able to do, even on those days where I’m struggling to explain a news story and shouting “I can’t write” every 3.4 seconds. I enjoy the challenge of telling the key points of a story in the simplest way as possible, I enjoy scripting and writing my own bulletins for different audiences.

However, the most powerful part of my news bulletins is the audio, it’s other people’s words. News is other people’s stories, no one wants to hear my thoughts on a certain topic, they want to hear from the people actually living it, I’m just there with the facts. I love creating a package and creating something with different sounds and other people’s words, spending time trying to bring something to life – I may as well get a plug for my soundcloud here https://soundcloud.com/user-312564443 have a listen for yourself.

Eri’s Questions to me

  1. Which was that one moment of your life that made you feel extremely happy and why?
  2. Why did you start blogging and why do you continue doing so?
  3. If you had the power to change one thing in this world what would that be and why?
  4. If you could, would you change something from your past?

My answers

Which was that one moment of your life that made you feel extremely happy and why?

Ah so many things I can’t pin it down.

Getting married (obviously).

There’s lots of seemingly small things that happen every day that make me happy, friends, family, hugs, music, all sorts; there’s lots that piss me off too ha, ha, ha.

Why did you start blogging and why do you continue doing so?

I started blogging on a whim in all honesty.

I had thought about doing it for a while and like most things put it off. Eventually on a random Wednesday night in January 2020 I just set up a site. I had no idea what I was doing, I’d done zero research, I wasn’t very good at websites, SEO or tech design (I’m still not); I just had an idea, went for it and learnt things along the way.

I keep blogging because I enjoy it. I’ve always been a writer; I’d fallen out of the habit of being creative away from work. Blogging allows me write about what I want and have an opinion. I like the fact it makes my brain work rather than just doom scrolling on social media while watching crap TV. I enjoy talking about books and chatting to other bloggers. Yes, there’s times where I can’t be bothered and don’t blog, but the pros outweigh the cons.

If you had the power to change one thing in this world what would that be and why?

For a start – I’d really, really like to get rid of the UK’s current government. Not to get all political or anything but I can’t cope with this current crop of absolute morons for much longer.

It’d probably go a long way towards solving a lot of our other problems around poverty and injustice in this country, so changing the government seems a good place to start.

If you could, would you change something from your past?

God, yes, lots.

For one I’d have gone to watch The Who at Leeds Uni when they played to mark the 50th anniversary of their original gig there, we’d said no on account of going to watch the Foo Fighters the following day – we should have gone to both.

Sharing something I created!

This blog, I have complete say over what goes on it and what I do with it and my radio work.

My Nominees

My questions

Why did you start blogging and what do enjoy about it?

  4. Congratulations on your nomination. I can’t understand you wanting to get rid of the current government, but if that’s the only thing that’s being changed, we’d just end up with another one like like it, or worse, like has been the case over the last 11 years

  5. These types of posts are fun to read. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I wanted to start blogging to help others find creative ways to catch up retirement savings after a late start. It does end up being way more than just writing down ideas. SEO and everything that goes with blogging has been a learning curve!

  7. Great answers. I’m loving reading peoples posts who get this award 🙂 I totally agree with giving your current government the boot. I’m originally from Manchester and living under them for so long was rubbish. I hope change comes sooner rather than later.
